For those with a large RV or travel trailer, it is easy to have a coffee maker of any variety set up in the kitchen, just like at home. For those with a pop-up or tent trailer where a permanent kitchen spot isn't available, a smaller coffee maker like a Senseo or a Keurig B30 can be a good option. I've got a pop-up camper and tote along my old Senseo. At home and in the office we use a Grindmaster OPOD but that's just too big and bulky for camping use.
For those who like to tent, especially if electricity isn't available, the choices are often few. Many tent campers rely on instant coffee to meet their needs where only hot water is required. Recently, new methods have been developed to make high-quality coffee when only hot water is needed. One such device is the new Handpresso. This small handheld device comes in two models and allows you to create a shot of espresso using either an ESE espresso pod or your own fresh grounds.
For regular coffee, many campers use a French Press. Several French Press models are available in small travel sizes and non-glass construction for better durability when camping. A new invention that uses French Press technology is the French Press To-Go from SoloBrew. This reusable and disposable device uses a brew-in-cup design that allows you to brew a single-cup of coffee using single-serve filter bags. These vacuum sealed filter bags contain a pre-measured single cup portion of fresh ground coffee that will make a cup as strong as you like based on steep time. Simply add boiling water, pump the plunger a few times and let it steep up to 5 minutes for your desired strength. When you're done, the filter/plunger is disposable and makes cleanup a snap. The brew-in-cup is reusable so refills can be ordered instead of buying new cups which makes it an evironmentally friendly choice.
Whether you camp or not, good coffee can often be hard to find in a hotel room or in the office. With a Solobrew French-Press To Go, you only need hot water to make a good cup of coffee. It would be great to have an SSC machine at your desk, but many offices prohibit small appliances so this isn't always an option.
I can't imagine camping without good coffee. Fortunately, there are plenty of options out there to satisfy everyone, no matter how you camp.
